Fresh Development in Actor Brijesh Karanwal's Case: Dindoshi City Civil Court Issues Writ of Summons to CINTAA and Certain of Its Office Bearers

A significant legal development has taken place in the proceedings initiated by actor Brijesh Karanwal. The Dindoshi City Civil Court, Mumbai, after considering the matter at the preliminary stage, has directed the issuance of a Writ of Summons to the Cine & TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA) and certain of its office bearers.
CINTAA is one of India's leading representative bodies for film and television artistes, working on issues concerning the welfare and interests of artists. The Association is presently headed by its President, Poonam Dhillon.
According to the plaintiff, after raising concerns in the interest of artists regarding the Association's functioning, accountability and financial transparency, and seeking clarification on certain matters, disciplinary action in the form of expulsion was initiated against him. The plaintiff has challenged the said action before the Court.
The plaintiff further contends that the expulsion was carried out without adherence to the principles of natural justice and due process of law. These allegations are yet to be adjudicated upon by the Court, and the respondents will have an opportunity to present their defence.
Prior to initiating legal proceedings, legal notices and representations were addressed to CINTAA, requesting reconsideration of the impugned action and appropriate relief. As the dispute remained unresolved, the plaintiff approached the Dindoshi City Civil Court, Mumbai.
In the latest development, the Court has directed the issuance of a Writ of Summons to CINTAA and certain of its office bearers, requiring them to appear before the Court and respond to the proceedings in accordance with law.

Commenting on the development, Advocate Anjana Sharma said:
"Our endeavour has always been to ensure that every artist receives a fair hearing, due process and access to justice. We firmly believe that the rule of law applies equally to everyone and that every dispute must be resolved through the judicial process. We have complete faith in the judiciary and will continue to protect our client's legal rights in accordance with law."
As the matter is presently sub judice, no comments are being made on the merits of the case. All rights, claims and defences of the parties remain open for determination by the competent Court in accordance with law.
